Using PPC to Drive Profitable Retail Sales

{ Posted on 9:36 PM by Mack }

Get the Keywords right - Start with an exhaustive list of keywords. Be ready to prune quickly- Concentrate on precise, relevant keywords. - If you sell Retro/Novelty t-shirts you should bid on ‘paris hilton t-shirt' and avoid ‘paris hilton clothes'- Organise your campaign into highly relevant ad groups that include only the keywords that convert into sales within your CPA target. Eg. ‘paris hilton keywords', ‘star wars keywords', ‘dirty dancing keywords' etc.

Get the Ads right - Test 3-4 ads for each of your ad groups.- Write relevant, benefit focused ad copy. Look for the ones that get the highest click through rates and conversion rates.- For Retail, our experience shows that the following is the best ad format:* Title: Paris Hilton T-shirts - consumer benefit: ‘They have exactly the item I am looking for'* Description 1: All your favourite Retro & Novelty Tees - consumer benefit: ‘They also have other items I might like'* Description 2: Order today, Get it tomorrow! - consumer benefit: ‘I can get my items quickly and easily'* Display URL: www.BrandURL.com/BuyNow - branding and call to action

Get the Landing Page right - Land consumers onto the most relevant page on your site. - Ideally you would have a page that only includes your breadth of Paris Hilton t-shirts.- Links to the rest of the range should be obvious and easy to navigate.- Other consumer benefits such as free postage & packaging, and sales should be obvious. Cross-sell similar items.- Ensure that the sales process is quick and easy

Analyse and Optimise for Profit - Track and record the value of each sale at the keyword level- When optimising, include your margins and the cost of media in your reports, to determine which are your profitable keywords- Depending if you are looking for volume or only profitable individual sales, prune your keyword list accordingly.

Let PPC influence the Product Range - Some items are not easy to describe and are not searched for. Concentrate on the keywords for items in your range that are searched for regularly, and then cross-sell your other items on the landing page.- If you see a high number of ad impressions and clicks for an ad group, with a low number of sales it could be that a product range is popular but you don't have the breadth of choice being searched for. Let the PPC data influence your range.- Ranges that are popular should be broadened and stocked regularly to support the PPC campaign.

PPC working with your other Marketing Communications - If you have a recognized brand, include this prominently in your PPC ad copy. ‘Official Site' is a strong consumer benefit.- Support good PR with ‘As seen IN' and ‘As seen ON' ad copy. This traditionally drives higher sales for several days after the release.- Brand awareness banner campaigns can greatly increase your PPC brand sales, which are traditionally the cheapest. - Support your PPC campaign with a robust SEO strategy for your broader keywords that drive traffic but have a higher conversion cost through PPC- Ultimately PPC should be driving your regular sales, filling in the troughs, made by the peaks from your other bursts of online and offline communications.

Make money with clickbank through commission blueprint formula

There's been a ton of buzz around this system
over the past few days and if you haven't heard
about it yet, let me just fill you in...

It's called the "Commission Blueprint" - a
radical formula created by Tim Godfrey and Steven
Clayton that exploits Clickbank and Google in
such a devious way that the resulting profits
are in the realms of the *insane*.

http://bebo92.comblue.hop.clickbank.net

Of course, you will have heard this kinda' thing a
gazillion times before and to be perfectly honest so
have I...

But after checking this out, I can give you rock
solid confirmation that this is the real deal,
especially if you want to replicate a simple system
that generates MASSIVE Clickbank commissions.

Let me just throw some figures your way...

- $6,513.04 in one day

- $153,426.72 in 6 weeks

- $526,422.83 in 7 months.

...and the crazy thing is, these numbers were
generated by promoting ONE Clickbank product,
bidding on just ONE keyword...and without ANY
help from JV partners or even an email list!

...not to mention the fact that this simple
affiliate campaign took just a few minutes to
set up.

How was it done?

Check out the story here:

http://bebo92.comblue.hop.clickbank.net

This is a VERY VERY different ball game...

In fact, if you've ever wondered why most affiliates
struggle to produce a red cent in profit whilst
others effortlessly rake in unfathomable Clickbank
commissions seemingly with their hands tied behind
their back, then sit up and take note, because you're
about to find out why.

----------------
The Best Thing?
----------------

You need no experience at all because they take you
through the entire process on screen AND give you
all the tools to actually make it happen.

----------------
The Weird Thing?
----------------

It's frankly bizarre that they're revealing this stuff.
If it were me, I would've kept my mouth FIRMLY shut
for sure.

These guys do 7 figures a year with Clickbank
consistently and generate far bigger numbers than
virtually anyone else on the planet.

Point being...if you're a suffering affiliate, you
NEED this material. Badly.

----------------
The Bad News...
----------------

There are only very limited spots available
and judging by how fast this has spread around
the net, they'll go ultra fast... possibly
in the next few hours.

It has literally just gone live though
so you should be in time...

End result?

Affiliates who FAIL to get hold of this
information will be left fighting for
scraps and ultimately will be in a world of
hurt from now on; that much I can assure you...

You can't afford to be left out of the loop with
this one...

Are You Connecting With the Ads on Your Site?

A lot of webmasters think of the ads on site and the content on their site as being two very different things. In a way of course, they are, but in another way they are very closely connected and it is this connection that we are going to look at in more depth.

The ads for your site are there to add an extra degree of assistance to your visitors. In effect they are a type of resource, leading them to other sites which may be of interest that are on a similar subject to yours. You may also have contextual ads for your site which appear connected to words within your content, and in this case you can connect with them more easily than you would with Google Adsense ads for example, which appear in a different block entirely to your website content.

Options such as in text ads on site that give you links related to the subject of your content can work exceptionally well if you are reviewing a particular item or type of item, because the Ad/ link will then allow the reader to see one of those items and go through to the promoter’s website to find out more about it.

This way of connecting with your ads is more pro-active than simply thinking of the ads for your site being completely separate than the site’s content. This applies to other types of ads on site as well; if you have an affiliate banner for example, you will be very likely to get more people clicking through to the website connected with that banner if you draw attention to it through a related topic.

In short, you should look at your website as a whole entity rather than being made up of lots of different components. After all it is the sum of those components that the visitors will see, and regardless of the type of ads for your site you end up using, the more you connect with them the more your readers are likely to connect with them as well.

The trick is to be honest about it though. If you try and use the flashing lights and the ‘wow look at this!’ approach, then people will know you aren’t being sincere. A more low key and conversational approach will work better for the ads on your site every time.

Optimizing Your Pay Per Click Campaigns

Choosing the right keywords in your advertising campaign is probably the most important part of online advertising.

Perform some research before you choose your keywords for your advertising campaign. Put yourself in the customers frame of mind and try to target the keywords you feel your potential customer might use to search for your business.

After you feel like you have the keywords that are going to slam your ad to the top of the sponsored results then you are ready for the next step...

The Head Line
Your headline needs to be direct and to the point. Not only this, but it also needs to capture your customers attention. Keep in mind there may be 5 or more ads along side yours. Just because your ad is at the top doesn't necessarily mean it will be the one that is clicked.

This is where the headline comes in > make it an eye popper!

Grab your customer's attention with the headline and they will take the time to read the rest of your ad.

Now For Your Description
In most advertising campaigns you only have a few characters so you have to make them count. Be sure to emphasize on important details about your products or services. Make clear of the important details like the price and the results they can expect from using your product or service.

Your Landing Page
Your landing page needs to point directly to the product or service you described in your advertisement. Your potential customer does not want to search through your entire website looking for the advertised product or service. Also displaying images of your product or service on your landing page will help.

Now your customer knows what your selling, the price and what it looks like and they have just arrived at your landing age less than 5 seconds ago.

Last Note:
Remember it is not only the price you pay per click that puts you at the top of the sponsored results, but also a well written and planned ad and also targeted keywords that pertains to your product or service.

Hopefully using this information will lower your cost per click and increase your CTR and ROI.

What Every Small Business Should Know About PPC

Local pay per click advertisers have a lot of options in today’s pay per click landscape. In some ways, local advertisers have more options than other advertisers. There is a tendency to see local business advertising, particularly online, as being limited, but that’s really an illusion. Today’s local business owner can take solace in a few facts about the nature pay per click advertising, namely, that optimization and local advertising practices allow for a more effective campaign that can serve your business well.

The discussion on pay per click advertising options must begin with keywords. It doesn’t matter whether you are a local business or a global business, if you want them to be effective, your pay per click advertising campaigns will be keyword-based. Local advertising, however, does rely on a little bit more focused effort and in addition to keywords you must think about geo-targeting.

A geo-targeted pay per click campaign can consist of several components:

* Geographic place names

* Zip codes

* Area codes

* Local landmarks

* Regional area marks

* Grid coordinates

Which of these components is the best to use for your local pay per click campaign depends on a number of factors, but all of them are available and it’s good to know what they are. Each major search engine that offers pay per click advertising also has a local search feature that involves mapping. Users can search for businesses by address, city and state, zip code, or even pinpoint them by grid locations. Pay per click advertising is similar in some ways.

A good pay per click campaign may involve the use of your local geographic place names, whether it is city and state or neighborhood. For instance, you might use Bronx, NY instead of New York, New York. Either way, your goal is to drive traffic to your local business website using pay per click advertising strategies.

Zip codes can also be effective, as can area codes. If your telephone area code covers an entire state, this might not be effective, but if it covers a specific area of a large metropolitan area like Los Angeles then it be quite effective.

Even landmarks can be useful in pay per click advertising. Phrases like, “Two miles South of Niagara Falls” can give people a general idea of your location. If the landmark is well known enough then it can be effective.

Perhaps one of the most overlooked geo-targeting techniques in pay per click advertising, yet one of the most effective, is the use of grid coordinates. Using Google Maps, or the mapping feature of Yahoo! or MSN, you can locate the exact grid coordinates (latitude and longitude) of your business and tell GPS users precisely where your business is located. This is particularly effective with mobile advertising.

Speaking of mobile advertising, local business owners can use pay per call services just as effectively as traditional pay per click. Just like the pay per click models of the search engines, some services allow advertisers to bid on mobile calling services and users are given the option to call your business directly from their mobile phones at the point of a single click. Bid prices generally start at $1 and you pay only when a mobile phone user makes a call from the ad. This is one unique feature of the Superpages pay per call service.

Both Superpages and Citysearch offer pay per call services as well as pay per click services. You can run both services simultaneously using the same ad. Known as local yellow pages, these services are used much like traditional phone books except that they exist online for users searching for a particular type of business in a local geographic area. When a searcher looking for your type of business finds your ad they can choose to click a link and visit your website or click a link and call your business from a mobile phone. Either way, you do not pay for the click or call until it is made. It’s a powerful way to advertise and the benefits far outweigh the cost for most local businesses.

Another benefit to using Citysearch and Superpages is that the cost per click for the pay per click service is usually much less than it would be with Google.

The leading pay per click service online, of course, is the above-mentioned search engine. Google started its pay per click service in 2001 and since then has gone on to become the largest pay per click provider on the Internet. That doesn’t mean it is the best option for everyone.

Yahoo! and MSN also provide pay per click services, though neither has yet presented an effective pay per call service. Google, on the other hand, has begun offering the pay per call service for mobile users and likely will see an increase in its advertising business in the next year.

When it comes to local pay per click or pay per call, many small businesses are forced to pay attention to budgetary concerns. This is not a limitation. It’s a reality. A simple test run of any campaign before getting too deep into the campaign at any search engine is advised and could save your local small business a lot of money in the long run.

Create A Referral Machine

by: Joe Polish

No matter how good your product or service is, no matter how great your team members are, no matter how honest you are, no matter how highly skilled and trained you are, if you break just one of these refer-ability habits, you have dropped the ball.

When you break one, you're saying to your clients and to your employees and to everyone you associate with that you don't respect them and that you're not dependable.

The bottom line is this: If you don't show people respect and dependability, they're not going to refer you.

The referral process
Implement a number of simple but effective processes into your daily routine.

For example:

* For service businesses, send clients pre-confirmation letters before the job via mail or e-mail.
* Educate clients with a complimentary consumer awareness guide or other literature.
* Do an inspection or evaluation presentation for the client that discovers their needs and conveys the value you will be delivering to address those needs.
* Be attentive and "present" when communicating with a client (i.e. turn your cell phone off).
* Share testimonials and other "evidence of success" to help build trust.

At the end of the job or sale, after you've educated your clients, you've provided a great service/product and they're happy, this is the perfect time to ask for a referral.

Educate clients as to why they should give you referrals. If you don't ask them and let them know the way you build your business is through referrals, don't expect them to really think about it for you.

You've got to plant a seed in their mind.

This can be done through something as easy as a referral tracking form that gives them an opportunity to list friends or family who may be in need of your company's services or products.

This could also be sent as an e-mail message that can be easily forwarded to others (nothing is easier than hitting the "send to all" button on their address book to forward your information).

Follow up with all newly referred prospects promptly.

Anytime you are given the name and contact information of someone who may be interested in your service or product, it's your responsibility to turn that referral into a sale.

Offer a referral reward
You need to thank and reward those who refer you.

If you are receiving referrals and you're not doing anything at this point to get referrals, they're just telling people about you because they're happy with your company.

Imagine what would happen if you not only started going out of your way to thank them for sending you business, but you also started rewarding them with gifts or perks.

Reward systems work very well with your employees too, so don't forget to thank them when they come back with a completed customer referral tracking form.

One gift to consider is rewarding clients with cash. Cash works. It does not have to be a large amount.

Hundreds of service providers all over the world use small cash rewards as a token of appreciation and to entice people to give them referrals.

It's much more cost-effective to give small cash rewards for a referral than to pay for expensive advertising or other forms of promotions.

One benefit to rewarding cash versus a "10 percent off your next purchase" coupon is that it is non-conditional. It's instant gratification. The client doesn't have to buy something from you again in the future.

As an alternative to cash, you could also give a bonus such as a free additional service, small free gift, or gift certificates to a local restaurant or movie theater.

You are trying to get it in the client's mind to remember you as a spectacular company to tell others about.

People have busy lives, so if you don't actively thank them and let them know you appreciate their referrals (and reward them) they're not going to be thinking about your company for long after the sale is completed.

Give clients a reason to remember you.

Client champions = business goldmine
Go out of your way to identify the people in your database who refer you most often, and then treat those people like gold.

They are your unpaid sales force, and often can outperform your paid sales force.

You can maximize the enthusiasm of your happiest referring "champions" through special recognition and events.

You can give public thanks to your champions in your newsletter, or posted in your lobby.

You can have client appreciation dinners and invite your champions for a free meal. You can have a referral contest, with each referral leading to a ticket in a drawing for some big prize, such as a dinner for two at an upscale restaurant, a weekend get-away or a cruise.

Some champions will have a network of people to share your praises to because they may own their own company and have clients to refer you to.

Other business owners are ideal partners to create endorsement relationships.

Paying to mail a letter of endorsement from this happy client to their own list of clients can lead to numerous referrals, especially if you extend them an offer because they are referred by this client.

This allows the business owner to give his/her clients a special offer, and with you paying for the mailing, they get to do something nice for their list that does not cost them a dime.

You may also offer them a referral percentage for any sales that occur from the mailing.

Get on Top of Major Search Engines With PPC

What is PPC?

Pay-Per-Click, or PPC, is often used by businesses to advertise on search engines. Advertisers can create an account to display ads on search results pages for keyphrases they wish to bid on. They can set up their accounts so that they only pay when a user actually clicks on an advertisement that links to the advertiser's website or landing page. The cost of a click varies greatly, from 5 cents to over $100. Advertisers will only pay the publisher up to a maximum PPC rate that is controlled through the campaign management portal. This allows businesses to advertise their company no matter what their budget. Many search engines and portals offer this kind of paid search advertising but the most popular are Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

How can Businesses use it to gain immediate exposure to targeted traffic?

Advertising always helps promote the business. PPC expands your connections because it can reach all over the web. Using the right keyword for the ads can gain immediate exposure to your business and get your site to the top of the search results page. Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adCenter are the largest network operators that provide PPC. Advertisers place bids on the keywords they think are most often searched by the target audience. Once the potential visitor types in the keywords or phrase in the search engine, the advertiser’s ad may be displayed. PPC, done correctly, can lead to an increase in traffic, can better qualify the traffic the site gets, and can lead to higher conversion rates. PPC done wrong can be a huge waste of money, which is why many businesses have a professional manage their campaigns.

How can PPC support SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

PPC helps get more traffic from search engines but it can also enhance search engine optimization. The presence of PPC ads sponsored search can boost click through to natural search results because of the confidence searchers gain when they see the site listed twice on one page. In fact, research shows that there is a 60% likelihood that a site will be clicked on when they site appears both in the natural and paid search areas of the search results page.

PPC also produces fantastic reports that show which keyphrases give the most band for the buck. With PPC campaign you can find what keyword converts before engaging so much time with SEO campaign. SEOs can then use that information to determine which keyphrases to optimize a page for. This will save money in the long run as a well optimized site can drive in plenty of highly qualified free traffic.

Case Study. We have been running a PPC campaign for www.FibrexGroup.com and its e-commerce sister site, www.BuyRecycledProducts.com for several months now. Through PPC, we determined early on that “recycling containers” was by far their hottest and most lucrative keyphrase. We then SEO’d both sites for “recycling containers” and several other similar variations. Over time, www.FibrexGroup.com rose to the first 3-5 positions on Google for “recycling containers” and the nacent www.BuyRecycledProducts.com went from nothing to #15 in just 2 months. With so much natural traffic going to these sites, we were able to stop bidding on “recycling containers” with no economic impact to the business, saving it $550 per month.

The key to a successful PPC campaign lies in proper analysis, study, and adjustment decisions. Effective PPC advertising needs a tightly-controlled theme of keywords/ keyphrases, well written ads, and links to goal-centric landing pages with clear calls to action that target your keywords directly. With proper PPC management, you will save a lot of money in the long run.

How to Make Money With Text Links Ads

Text Link Ads has officially lost all its SERP rankings in Google. They don’t even rank for their own name anymore - in fact the actual site is not on the first page, nor the second, thirth, fourth or even the seventh! Go ahead and see for yourself http://www.onlinesfortune.com

Google has been warning of its crack down on the paid links industry for the last little while, and the penalty on Text Link Ads does not come as a surprise given the recent de-indexing such as UndertheCover.Net.

The big ‘G’ is taking its toll on the industry, and dozens of hardworking webmasters are going out of business. As you can probably imagine, there is little value in backlinks when your primary method of getting traffic is through Google’s organic search results.

This is a serious blow to MediaWhiz holdings, which recently acquired Text-Link-Ads and I am certain that this incident is not the last of Google’s rampage on overturning the industry amidst concerns regarding the next PR update, stance on paid links, and paid directory submissions.

Module features

Simplified setup right on your site. All you need is your Website XML Key from Text-Link-Ads.com and you're ready to start publishing ads.

A built-in tool to customize the looks of the ads, including borders, background color, link color and font size.

Access to your publisher statistics from within your website. See your site details, including how much money you've earned and how many links are being served.

Cron-based updates of your ads. The ad links are kept up to date via Drupal's cron functionality.

Update 3, October 2007 - Support for multiple keys per site to allow per page targetting.

Getting started

Install the module by placing it in the modules directory and enabling it from the admin/modules. No database changes are necessary.

Sign up for a Text-Link-Ads publisher account and make note of your Website XML Key.

Browse to the admin/settings/textlinkads page on your site. Enter the Website XML Key in the field of the same name.

On the same page, enter the Ad Block Heading. Your links will be available as a block. The value you enter will be the title of the block. You may leave this field blank.

On the same page, use the Text-Link-Ads Appearance Settings settings to customize the way your ad links look. Press Submit to save all of the settings for this page.

Now you must enable the block that will show your ad links. Browse to the blocks administration page and enable the block entitled text link ads advertisments

Your site will communicate with the Text-Link-Ads site every time cron.php is run. If you have already configured cron jobs for your site ads will start appearing in the block as soon as the next cron run completes (note that Text-Link-Ads must sell some links for your site first). If you don't have cron tasks enabled follow the directions found on Drupal.org for doing so. You may also consider installing the Poormanscron module to help.

Once you have set everything up properly and Text-Link-Ads has sold some links on your site, you can monitor your statistics and earnings from your Drupal site. All that is required is the same password that you use to log onto the Text-Link-Ads.com site. Enjoy!

Selecting the Right Keywords to Use for Pay Per Click Advertising

Pay per click can be a minefield if you don’t have much knowledge of what you are doing. Your success or failure depends largely on the keywords you choose to bid on, and if you choose the wrong ones you aren’t likely to get a very good response to your pay per click advertising campaign.

Clearly, keyword research is the main task that you need to spend time on if you want your cost per click advertising to work efficiently. Many people make the mistake of selecting single keywords that already have a great deal of competition when they are constructing their first PPC advertising campaign – small wonder that they get such disappointing results!

Long tail keywords are the better route to follow. Long tail simply means that you are concentrating on targeting a specific phrase rather than a single word. This will target your audience far more efficiently and it will usually bring much better results. You may end up getting less people clicking through (meaning less costs for you, particularly as long tail keywords also tend to cost less to bid on) but the people who do click through are much more likely to take an active part in your website – whether that means buying something, signing up for something or otherwise getting involved in a way that targeting single keywords would not match.

Of course, experimentation with your pay per click advertising is still the key to success. You may be lucky and pick an exceptionally productive key phrase right at the beginning, but you should always be monitoring your results to see how you are doing and whether or not you are getting the results you want.

Incidentally it doesn’t matter what the method of delivery of your cost per click campaign actually is in this situation; you should still pay attention to your results in order to get the best out of your efforts. You could be using Adwords, or alternatively you might be trying out the Kontera In-Text Advertising option that has recently become so popular.

The key is to monitor your results and when you find something that really works well, you can roll it out on a larger scale to achieve even more success from your cost per click advertising.

Bidding Wars in the World of PPC

So you have finally decided to start a pay per click campaign to bring more visitors to your website. You have set a budget that you are happy with, you have done hours of keyword research to identify those words that are both cheap to bid on and are likely to attract a lot of visitors to your site, and you are ready to get started.

That’s just about the best start you could make in the world of pay per click advertising – a start that is cemented in by good research. So now is the time to sit back and see the results of your labors.

But then the inevitable happens. You’re getting pretty good results from your pay per click advertising campaign to begin with, but then you notice that someone else has been doing their research too, and they have decided to bid slightly more than you on your best key phrase to rank higher and get more visitors.

What do you do? We’re a competitive lot by nature, so the initial reaction will probably be to go into your account and up the amount you are bidding to get ahead of them again. But is that really the best choice? After all, that is now going to cost you more money, and while you might have been getting good traffic and results from that option there may still be other and better ways of getting a result from this form of advertising.

If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in this position – and in truth a lot of people will go through this situation at some point during their progress in the world of pay per click – then the best thing to do initially is to go back to your keyword research again.

Were there any other phrases there that could bring in equally good results? Try researching your keywords again in case any others come up that you hadn’t spotted before. PPC advertising is a very fluid market and is constantly changing; while one keyword phrase may look to be the best on one day, it could be that once you lose that top bid to someone else you can go back and find something else to bid on that will get you even better results.

The solution is not to panic and immediately go in over their heads and bid above them again. You might end up doing this anyway, but think about it before you do. Look at the whole situation and think about whether the increased bid would be worth putting in for the return you were getting before.

If it isn’t, then it’s time to explore new territory.

The use of Web directories for Web search information is quickly growing in popularity. Some Internet users rely only on Web directories for their information searches. Submitting your Web site to a Web directory can help to increase your site traffic by letting people know that your site is there and that you're open for business.

Web directories list their registered Web sites according to a variety of categories. This makes it simple for someone looking for information about a particular subject to find an extensive list of Web site possibilities. When you submit your Web site to a Web directory, make sure you review the entire list of directory categories. Having your site listed in the most descriptive category for your business is essential for driving people to your site.

If you are unsure about which category to use for your listing, review some of the Web sites already listed in the various categories to help you make your decision.

The listings for Web directories are comprised of Web sites that the site owners submit and also Web sites that the directory editors discover and add to the directory listing. It is quite possible that, if you have a well-established and informative Web site, that your site is already listed on one of the Web directories.

Don't wait for one of the directories to find you. Be proactive and submit your Web site to one or more directories so that your site will definitely be listed as a resource for Web researchers.
Submit your Web site to well-known directories with proven track records. There is a much greater chance that your site will be discovered on a popular directory. You will also want to target Internet users that choose to use a high-quality Web directory.

There are several established directories available today, and there will likely be more created in the years to come. Know the overall rating of a Web directory before submitting your site for a listing. Your business's reputation can be affected by your online associations.

The Open Directory, or DMOZ (Directory Mozilla), has been in operation since 1999 and is one of the most frequently used Web directories. Your site submission may take as long as a year and a half to actually appear on the directory, but it will be well worth the wait to be listed on this well-established Web directory.

Yahoo Directory is another high-quality directory that you can consider. A listing in either one of these directories will help direct potential clients and information seekers to your site.

Blogging Advice – What Every New Blogger Needs to Know

Blogging advice tailored for newcomers can be hard to find. With new terms and tools appearing daily, it can be confusing for new bloggers to know where to start. To learn the basics of blogging such as how to set up a blog and make money from it, keep reading; it's easier than you think.

First, pick which blog platform you would like to use. The top two contenders are blogger.com and wordpress.org. Here's some simple blogging advice if you're having trouble deciding. If you're entirely new to blogging, blogger.com is the way to go. If you're familiar with the basics of blogging or would just like to have more ''control'' over your blog, wordpress might be a better choice. No matter which option you choose, the process is simple. All it takes is filling out your name, email address and naming your blog.

Although each platform comes with its own web hosting, here’s some blogging advice every blogger should take. Purchase your own domain name. Not only will having your own domain be easier for your visitors to remember, it will add another level of professionalism to your blog.

After you've picked out which blogger platform to use and have started to set up your blog, the next step is choosing your template. Templates are pre-made designs for your blog. The best blogging advice when it comes to templates is to make sure that your template reflects the topic of your blog. It's more sensible to use a car template if your blog is about exotic cars, than it is to use a template about food.

You may not realize it, but you're halfway done. You've picked a blog platform, registered your blog name, and picked out your very own template. You may have also decided to register your own domain name. Now its time for some blogging advice that everyone wants to know - how to make money from your blog.

There are 3 main ways to monetize your blog - through traffic, content and ads.

Traffic for your blog can be obtained in many ways. While most people think you have to pay a huge amount of money to achieve traffic results, the following tips are not only free, but also simple.

The easiest way to earn money from your blog is by simply filling it with content. If you can remember this, it will become one of the best blogging advice you've ever received. The more relevant content that you add to your blog, the easier it will be for search engines to find it. This means more traffic, which equals more money. When you first begin to blog, try to post several times a week and eventually work up to blogging on a daily basis. Readers like to know that every time they visit your blog, they will read something new.

Don't worry if you don't like to write; content comes in different forms. No longer is writing the only way to fill up a blog. Videos, podcasts and even games are now considered content.

Once you've filled your blog with content, the next step is to add your blog to social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking sites are websites that cater to sending readers to blogs based on their personal interests. The top social bookmarking sites include StumbleUpon, Digg, Technorati, Reddit, Propeller, Fark, and Del.icio.us. However, many bookmarking sites prohibit any marketing ploys; so to minimize risk, bookmark 4 to 5 non-self-serving links for every self-serving link you bookmark. Post comments on other people’s bookmarks and be an active participant in the discussions. Bookmark sites that other people have bookmarked so you’ll be seen as part of the community.

Another effective way to create income is by signing up for affiliate programs and promoting them on your blog. This is not only great blogging advice, but can be used for other ventures as well such as websites. Every time a visitor purchases an affiliate product from your blog, you get paid a commission for it. The commissions can range any where from a few bucks to hundreds of dollars. The tip to remember when it comes to affiliate marketing is to pick programs and products that are related to your blog. It’s much easier to get your visitors to sign up for a recipe subscription if your blog is about cooking, than it is to get them to sign up for a stock market subscription.

One last tip for creating money for your blog is to place ads. This can be done in various ways. One of the most popular ways is through Google adsense. Each time a visitor clicks on one of the adsense ads, you get paid. It's also free to sign up for an account. As a bonus, if you signed up under the blogger.com platform, all it takes are a few clicks to get adsense onto your blog. If you chose wordpress, the setup is still easy. You just simply install a plug-in to add Google adsense to your blog.

A lot of people will tell you that this is the blogging advice they wished they would've received when they first started to blog. Not only do you now know how to setup a blog, you also learned how to profit from it. Now the only thing you have to do is go create your blog and start earning!

The term BLOGGING is phenomenal! Blogging has dramatically changed the communication scenario over the years, making it to be much easier, more personalized and more effective. Blogging has been the success factor for many bloggers. There are several important keys to success in blogging. These keys will unlock many stubborn obstacles along the blogging trail.

Many prerequisites must be fulfilled even before thinking about achieving success in blogging. They include having a clear and definite perception of what type of blog will best fit your marketing plans, how can the blog be tracked and how will comments be handled. Planning the most appropriate blogging strategy is another aspect that should not be omitted.

(1) Adhere to the culture of blogging

The culture of blogging requires the blogger to be real. This means that you must be identified with your audience, do everything for the readers, write good content that will captivate them and make space for their interaction. Regular posting, creation of links, providing good comments on other blogs, pinging your blog upon its completion, application of feeds, creation of catchy and compelling titles for search engines, and adding the element of fun - these are some of the keys to success in blogging.

(2) Bring in the traffic

Traffic is essential to blogs. Analyze the number of visitors per day, pages visited thus far, and the origin of these visitors. Blogging encourages conversations, therefore, it is important to look at the quality of the visitors and their visits. The sources of such incoming traffic may include search engines, links from other blogs, and other normal marketing efforts. It would be beneficial to study them to improve your strategy for building traffic. Factors such as providing comments on your blog, including interviews on your blog, and providing prompt responses to questions posted by other bloggers, play a vital role in stimulating traffic growth to your blog.

(3) Be actively involved in conversations

Blogging requires conversations. Conversations will lead to the development of traffic for your blog. It is an important key to getting success in blogging. Invite other bloggers to your blog. Link more to other bloggers. If there is an incoming link to your blog, it implies two things: (a) that you have content that interests the other blogger (b) that the door to exponential growth in traffic is being opened. Incoming links are precious, even if they are from minor blogs.

(4) Prepare for search engine optimization

Getting more readers and customers to your blog can be achieved when you have your blog prepared for search engine optimization. That is, make your site friendly to search engines, which can affect your traffic positively and negatively. Certain factors that will help include having meaningful addresses for instance www. ezinearticles.com, having links to the blog home page and main home page, and putting up great page titles.

(5) Extend warm welcome

Getting visitors to stay longer on your blog requires diligent work in extending your warm welcome. Encourage visitors to look around and ask questions. Provide a short introduction about yourself. Show them recent posts and links to other blogs of interest. Provide visitors the easy access to content that interest them by way of feeds. They will be able to subscribe to your blog and become readers eventually.

(6) Make your blog known

One of the keys to success in blogging is through promotion using conventional marketing methods. You can include your blog on your business card. This will create a viral effect, and people will come to know about your blog. With good content on your blog, visitors will be in for positive experiences. This opens the door to the building of relationships.

(7) Build the relationships

In blogging, relationships bring bloggers closer. Many lessons in blogging can be learned . Blogs can be better improved with ideas and contributions from other bloggers. Personalization is integral to blogging. A honest and transparent relationship brings out the best of contributions from every blogger. Positive experiences can be gained. Feeding comments on other blogs, linking to other blogs, sending emails to other bloggers, and even talking to other bloggers through innovative Skype - all these are vital keys to success in blogging.

(8) Discard all distractions

The blog for all its intentions is a good way of communicating with other bloggers, and in the process gain their trust and to build good relationships through good content on your blog. Preferably, ads should be not placed on your blog. These may distract your readers as well as not enhancing the value of your own business. Conversations are the main factors that will support your goal in trust and relationship building. Offering blog specific promotions such as contests centered on the ad, being involved in interesting charity events, or establishing a podcast interview with the advertiser, are sound ways to putting ads on your blog, if really needed to.

(9) Develop a community for your blog

No blog is an island. Increase the visibility of your blog. Build a community on your blog to share ideas and interests. A community will open up new opportunities. It provides new challenges, and it never fails to impart important information that will benefit others. Everyone in the community will stand to gain from the dissemination of latest news about new job opportunities, new fitness equipment or even a new hairstyling salon that may be of interest to the relevant business. Information from high profile bloggers will also add value to the knowledge of the community.

Blogging enhances the visibility of your business. It provides great opportunities for the exponential growth of your business. The keys to success in blogging have been listed above, but the ultimate outcome is still dependent on your commitment to your blog, the amount of hard work that you are ready to put in, and your desire to succeed.

13 Steps to Successful Blogging

Blogs can be a very marketable and very profitable tool if used correctly. Profiting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual salesmen selling. In this article you will learn the 13 most essential steps to successful blogging.

1) Where to start?

You should begin your blog with a free blog hosting service such as Journal Home. I don't say that because I'm the owner, but a free blog host is very rewarding for a new blog. Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging instantly without having any advance knowledge of scripts, hosting, or programming. It allows you to build an audience and buzz for your blog. It allows you to focus on your content and not the internal maintenance of the blog. The best benefit of starting with a free service, is in the case your blog doesn't become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill. The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first. When your blog traffic grows greatly and you are ready to upgrade to your own domain then you can simply make your last blog entry the announcement of your "move". Simply add a last entry stating that your blog has "moved" and type the new blog URL address. Which directs visitors to your new blog site, keeping your following, without a major inconvenience to anyone. Upgrade as you need to...but only when you need to!

2) Niche

A niche is a targeted product, service, or topic. You should first decide on a product, service, or topic which interest you. Choose an area which you can enthusiastically write about on a daily basis. You can use keyword research services like Google Zeitgeist or Yahoo! Buzz Index to find popular searched topics. It does NOT matter if your topic is popular as long as there is a audience for your topic and the topic is precisely focused then your blog should be successful. Anything can be considered a niche as long as it has a target audience no matter how large or how small the audience is. A blog about your cat can be a niche or a blog about the species of the cat family can be a larger niche market, if there are people who are interested in hearing about your cat or the species of the cat family, then you have a niche...you can even choose to build your audience for a market which an audience does not exist, but first you must build your blog.

3) Update Daily (nothing less)

This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. To keep your blog traffic and retain your visitors interest it is a must to update your blog daily with multiple entries. Though, I am seeing a growing trend of successful blogs that are not being updated daily, but they are successful and have a stable audience who continue to visit their blog daily. Regardless, these blogs are still updated weekly with multiple entries. Until you have a steady audience you should try to update your blog everyday with at least 3 or more daily entries. The best way to accomplish this is to set aside 1-2 hours a day for tending to your blog and adding new entries. It may even be wise to schedule a set time which you dedicate to your blog each day. Give yourself work hours and treat your blog as a job, what happens if you don't come to work for days or weeks...you lose money or worse you get fired! Same applies here...if you don't update your blog for days or weeks you'll lose visitors.

4) Traffic

It's no secret. You must have traffic to profit from blogs. There are numerous ways to build traffic. Paid advertising, free advertising, viral marketing, search engine marketing, RSS/XML feeds, and word-of-mouth. You should always use your blog URL address in the signature of your email, forum discussions, message boards, or any other communication media. You should submit your blog URL address to search engines and blog directories. You should submit your RSS/XML URL feed to blog ping services like Technorati, Ping-O-Matic, and Blogdigger. You should confidently share your blog with family, friends, co-workers, associates, and business professionals when it relates. Many blogs can be considered as a collection of articles, for this purpose you should submit your blog entries (those that are valuable and lengthy articles) to content syndicators like GoArticles.com or ArticleCity.com. Once submitted your articles can be picked up and published by others. The trick is to make sure you include your Blog URL address in the "About the Author" passage. What this does is create link popularity and backlinks for your blog, when someone picks up your article from the syndication then publish the article on their website the "About the Author" passage is included with each publication and the link you included is followed, crawled, and indexed by search engines. Imagine if your article is popular enough or controversial enough to produce 10,000 publications across the web. The search engines is bound to find your blog in no time with that many publications and credit you a authority on the topic, in return increasing your rank on search engines. The small effort of writing a well written article is rewarding. You should try to write at least 1 full length article every week for syndication and submit your article to at least 10 article syndicators.

5) Track Your Blog

How do you know if your blog has traffic? Just because no one is leaving comments doesn't mean your blog isn't growing. Many visitors do not leave comments but they are returning visitors. I know it sounds crazy but with blogs people are more interested in what "you" have to say! Many visitors do not comment their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time. Some do not comment at all, but are active daily visitors.

Tracking your blog does not have to be overly sophisticated usually a simple free page counter like StatCounter.com or Active Meter will do the trick. Install (copy/paste) the code into the html of your blog template and start tracking your visitors. Its better to use a service which gives you advanced traffic analysis, such as keyword tracking information, referral information, and search engine information. Visitors, returning visitors, and unique visitors should be standard for any page counter service you choose.

6) Listen to Your Audience

When using the proper page counter you should begin to see how others are finding your blog and if through search engines then which keywords are being used to find your blog. If constantly your blog is being found by 1 or more keywords then focus your blog around those keywords to make it even more powerful. When writing entry titles and entries use the keywords as often as possible while keeping the blog legible and interesting.

7) Multiple blogs

Use multiple blogging accounts (free) to attract more people. This means you should have a blog with JournalHome.com and others. The more blog accounts the better (be sure to read and adhere to the Terms of Service for each site). You can copy/paste from 1 blog to all others. Having different blog accounts is like having a publication in different newspapers. This enables you to attract more visitors and this also increases the chance that 1 of your blogs will be in the search engine results for your focused keywords.

8) Short & Concise

Aside from the lengthy article a week for syndication and publication your blog entries should be short & concise (if you can help it). Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and you have no choice but to blog lengthy entries, but try to avoid this as much as possible. You do not want your blog entries to become hours of reading. Visitors like to easily find information and skim through your entries. It is good to be detailed and provide useful information, but do not include useless information or run away sentences that veer away from your topic. Stay keyword-focused.

9) Digital Art

Try to include non-advertising graphics, pictures, photos, and art in your blog entries. Not too much. Once a week is fine. Graphics can sometimes bring your blog to life. Of course, the content of the blog is the most important aspect and you do not want to overshadow your content with graphics, but displaying graphics can add a bit of spice to the blog. Be choosy about your graphics and make sure they fit your entry topic. You should add content with the graphic, at least a caption. Original graphics, photos, pictures, and art is recommended.

10) Keep it Personal

A blog is most successful when it is kept personal. Try to include personal experiences which relates to the topic of your blog entry. Stay away from the business style of writing. Write with a more personal style and use first-person narratives. Do not write any of your entries as sales letters, instead share product reviews and personal endeavors.

11) Interact With Your Visitors

You now have the traffic you deserve. You should begin interacting with your visitors. Create a regular theme such as: "Monday Money Tip" or "Picture of the Week" which entices your readers to look forward to each week.

Give your readers advance notice about a product, service, or topic which you are going to review and then talk about later. If the President was scheduled to give a speech then in your blog you should state that you "will discuss the speech and give your opinion after the speech airs. Comments will be appreciated".

Try your best to find exclusive information that not many have. Do not disclose any confidential or secret information which is deemed illegal or can potentially get you into trouble, but try to get the scoop before everyone else does. Such as: If your blog was about Paris Hilton (the socialite) and you had a blog entry about "Paris Hilton Getting Married" then it would be interesting to your readers if you had a actual picture of Paris Hilton engagement ring. Give your best effort to dig and search the internet for exclusive information and you will possibly come up with something useful. Your readers will appreciate this and they show their appreciation through word-of-mouth referrals. Imagine how many readers will tell their friends, family, and others about information they only can find at your blog.

12) Make Money

Once your blog has gained some real momentum and your blog traffic is increasing then it is time to start thinking about turning your traffic into profit. You should use contextual advertising, like Google Adsense or Chitika. Contextual advertising is usually text links which use the content of your blog to publish targeted ads on your blog. The payout is usually based on a pay-per-click model, meaning for ever click an ad receives you are paid a small percentage of the profits. In addition to contextual advertising it is good to also use graphical advertising such as: BlogAds.com, Amazon.com, MammaMedia, or General Sponsored Advertising.

13) You're a Professional

You're a professional now! What are you still doing with that free blog hosting service? It is time to upgrade to a domain hosted solution. You need to get a web host and choose a domain name for your blog then check its availability. Select the blogging software you wish to use, such as: Squarespace.com, WordPress.org, MovableType.org, TypePad, etc. When you have your new blog domain setup and ready for traffic then it is time for you to announce your move on all your previous blog accounts. Your last entry to the blog should be a "move" announcement. The title should be "Moved" and the blog entry should state something like "I have a new home for my blog, please bookmark and follow the link: http://www.yournewblogdomainname.com/". This way all returning visitors and new readers should not have any problem finding your new blog domain. Plus, search engines can easily index and crawl your new blog, since your old blog should already be popular with the search engines.

At the level of a professional blogger you may want to team up with 1 or more other bloggers. This will create a more interesting and more powerful blog. The old saying "two heads is better than one", more authors mean more advertising and exposure because each author will have a vested interest in the blog. The idea of a team blog is to make it profitable and rewarding for all authors, while continuing to target the blog topic and keeping the blog interesting for visitors.

Following these blogging techniques should make your blogging experience much more rewarding. There is no guarantee that your blog will become popular or a household name, but the effort should at least put you one step closer. Making money online is not an overnight experience like many may think, but making money online is definitely a foreseeable possibility. As well, growing popularity on the web is not an overnight experience, but through time, dedication, and persistence you will be rewarded with all the royalties of blogging.

Make Money Online by Blogging - How to Get Started

Explore the many ways to make money online by blogging with or without a blog, get paid to write reviews of products and services, and earn extra cash by writing articles, content and blogging for Google AdSense blog networks.

1. An overview on paid blogging
There are 3 main flavours of paid blogging - your own blog on your own domain and webhost, using a blog on a free blog service such as Blogger and creating a blog on a blog network. The work is the same. You get paid to write or blog about a product, service or anything required by a customer.

The amount paid varies greatly from US$1 to US$200 or more for about 50 to 200 words depending on advertiser requirement. The more popular or higher traffic your blog has, the greater your reach and therefore the higher you are paid. Terms vary in that you may be asked to write a single post from time to time or you may be contracted to blog a minimum of 1 post a day for a few weeks for a specified sum.

2. Blog requirements
Usually, there are certain requirements that your blog will have to meet before being accepted for assignments. Requirements vary with each paid-to-blog network. Generally though, paid-to-blog networks do not accept new blogs with little content and no readership base, so you will need to spend the first few weeks or months writing posts regularly to build up a sizeable amount of content.

You could buy articles or use free articles from various sources of course, but ultimately you will have to write your own unique content to keep readers coming back. It’s a lot of hard work.

Other requirements could be that your blog has to be several months old, be indexed by Google, be of a certain pagerank or have a certain amount of traffic. Blog content and writing standard also affect approval. If you do not own a blog, you may be asked to provide some writing samples for evaluation.

3. Using a free blog on a blogging service
Creating a free blog on Blogger, Live Journal, Wordpress and other free blogging services is how most bloggers will start off. These sites are fine for personal blogs but if you have plans to monetize your blog and use it as a means to provide some form of viable revenue, it is best to register your own domain and host your own blog on a web host.

This is because you will have complete control over how you want to monetize your blog and have your own entity and identity eg. yourblog.com instead of yourblog.blogspot.com. Also, some paid-to-blog networks do not accept blogs created on a free blogging service.

4. Creating a blog on a blog network
If you do not own a blog, you can still earn from blogging. Some blog networks require you to create a blog hosted on their network with their revenue earned directly from advertisers, syndication or other means. Sites: Blogchex, Gather, DigitalJournal.

Other blog networks engage you as their freelance professional blogger where you have to commit to making regular posts. In such cases, the content you create could belong to the blog network and you will not be able to use your content anywhere else. These have very high journalistic standards and are difficult to get accepted. Sites: 451press, Blog Republic, Weblogsinc.

5. Posting on Google AdSense blog networks
Other blog networks who use Google’s AdSense programme to generate revenue are less restrictive in terms of topics to write about and tend to be less demanding when it comes to content quality and the reuse of content at other sites.

Bloggers are paid by Google AdSense from the number of clicks received on ads embedded in their posts. Therefore you must first sign up for Google’s AdSense programme before joining these blog networks. You also get paid for referrals. Payouts may seem too little to bother with but if you are active in many networks, the amounts add up. Sites: WriteNiche, WritingUp, Hubpages, Squidoo, Xoomba.

6. Setting up your own blog on your own domain
Buying your own domain costs about US$8 a year while buying a basic hosting plan costs from about US$5 a month. Choose a reliable web host which has a good uptime track record and customer service is important. You may have to be prepared to spend a little more to ensure some reasonable level of quality hosting.

Visiting a web host’s forum where members discuss the web host’s service will give you a good idea of its reliability but since most have a 30-day money-back guarantee, signing up to try would probably be the best way to go.

After building up a fair amount of quality content, you can apply to join professional blog networks if your blog meets the high standards of these sites: Blogburst, B5media, Orble, Webbleyou.net

7. Paid reviews
Some blog networks will assign offers to you from time to time and all you have to do is blog about the product or service and provide links as required on your blog. Other options of monetizing your blog may also be given such as placing banners and buttons or text links on your blog. Sites: PayPerPost, Blogsvertise, LoudLaunch, CreamAid.

Get More Website Visitors Without Going Broke

In the never-ending quest to make money online, every website owner wants to get traffic to their website fast.

The main problem they face: finding traffic that converts into buyers without breaking their bank.

In their haste to get the traffic they need, many website operators start throwing money at the problem buying ads and exhaust their advertising budget without any meaningful profit (unless you count the person they paid for the advertising).

The following three rules should help any business, big or small, make money with their online advertising.

** Set An Online Advertising Budget **

Most businesses, especially smaller ones with only a few people (or even one person), don't operate with an advertising budget.

The advertising money gets spent when everything else gets paid, or worse, they spend money on advertising without a plan so they're basically gambling with their money.

By setting an advertising budget, you can factor it into your overall business picture and it gives you a yardstick to measure results.

If you budget $500 a month to advertise and look for ways to spend that money wisely, then your business will grow more predictably than if you advertise sporadically and then wonder why you don't operate with a predictable income stream.

** Follow The Numbers **

Unlike offline advertising on billboards, magazines or in direct mail, you can track virtually all aspects of an online ad, including: how many people saw the ad; how many people clicked the ad; how many sales and how much revenue the ad generated.

Since you can track everything, you can test various phases of the advertising process.

Regardless of whether you operate a real estate agent website, sell an eBook, or hawk your plumbing services online, you can and should measure each phase of the advertising process.

If clicks on your ads fall below expectations, then work on your ad until it generates a healthy click-through rate turning viewers into website visitors.

If you don't convert very many of the website visitors you get into buyers, then your site needs work to do a better job of selling people.

By following the numbers, you can see where you need to focus in the online sales process.

The number one rule of online advertising: use a unique tracking link for each and every one of your ads, preferably one that tracks not only unique visitors, but also sales.

This might add an extra 5 or 10 minutes of work to placing each ad, but it will allow you to see which ads make a profit (so you can run them again) and which ads don't (so you can change or cancel them).

** Go Beyond Pay-Per-Click **

Google AdWords and Overture, the Web's top pay-per-click advertising sources, have made people lazy.

Many website owners never go beyond buying advertising from these two. However, a whole world of advertising exists buying ads on websites targeted to specific niche audiences.
